Well Red, as i remember, most french people think that french is the only language in the world, and that every one should talk french, so talking English might be bad

I don't hate france per se, i just hate the snobbery language.

I do like french people though. Well some.. especially football players.

Well tbh Azzer, in America, Americans think English should be the only language in the world, well most of them/us? do anyways. I think that if you come here to LIVE here you should learn our language but retain yours in a home/family environment. But don't go out into public speaking your native language and getting pissed when people don't understand. You're in our country now, speak our language.

Some french people are kind of snobbish. But if you want to work as a commentator you have to speak understandable french (no need to speak french perfectly and accent-free, you just need people around you to understand).

I agree with that.

But (yes there has to be a "but" xD) the thing is that those that already lived there don't always know how to correctly speak their own language. I'm not talking about being a grammar nazi or common speaking errors, but really not knowing how to build a sentence or the rules of conjugation...Having spent a lot of time in Hawaii and now France, some tourists speak better english/french than some people living in those countries that went to school for 20 years...

Thus why I said use it in the home and family environment. I know families that speak great English but also have not had their native language suffer because that is the one they use mainly at home.

The reason some tourists or immigrants speak better English is because they don't learn dialects. It is hard to find a place that speaks English perfectly correctly because of how dialects have changed the language. The South has their dialect same with New York, Cali, ect. This changes the way we speak and form our sentences. Just an issue with dialect.

dialects....british english IS a dialect as is all of american english (hey I am taking a class in linguistics right now and we discussed this)....even the midwesterns of the usa have a dialect that all others can hear (we just cant

I can understand not wanting to learn a language if you are visiting a foreign country, but if you plan to live there for a good long time MOST countries would expect you to speak the local language (when I lived in japan I never really expected anyone to speak english, but it was sure nice when they did)...for some reason in the usa, most foreigners just expect their language to be spoken to them

MOST signs here are in english ONLY.........IF you plan on becoming a citizen the ceremony is in ENGLISH.....
but the usa has no offical language (some cities do, but the country does not).....and the way its going spanish will become the offical language instead of english.

oh well, I will probably not live to see that so whatever----

I'm fine with dialects, it's kind of normal for a certain region to not use the same words as another.
But then there's speaking like you never went to school and instead created your own words or gave different definitions to some words (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tq2aEeaT9ZY). But maybe in the US it's not really like that, but in France...a survey showed that a monkey that learned sign language could correctly use more words than some teenagers...

English will always be the "main" language when in foreign languages, since 1 english is easy to learn, and 2, english is grammatically very easy.

Compared to German, French, chinese that is.

Dialects are great, though a guy from Copenhagen (me) will have a hard time understanding a person from southern Jutland, and both are in Denmark. but it's kinda the charm about countries.

If you plan to live abroad from your birth country, you better learn the language, you don't have to perfect it ofcourse, but make yourself understandable is the key here.

Actually, if I recall correctly, English is the hardest language to learn and master. I forget why but I seem to recall hearing that.

When I traveled to Mississippi, I had a hard time understanding some of them due to their heavy southern accents. And they use different words for certain things. All very odd and interesting at the same time.

I have a hard time with the southern accent sometimes. But when you spent 1/4 of your life in Hawaii and had english class in France, you get used to all kind of accents xD.

For someone from France going to Tahiti, they'll have a hard time understanding people at first because people mix french with tahitian/english/spanish and if you are unlucky : chinese xD.
Luckily where I am in France they don't use any special dialect ^^ (except one word, but I already knew it so

English is not a hard language to learn, it is a hard language to master, mostly because of the prepositions and colloquial phrases......Chinese is a very hard language to learn and master---the written form is horrible and the verbal form with all the different inflections and such make it easy to say things wrong

Many countries are now teaching english so lots of people are learning it......

lots of flights, just think of all the frequent flyer miles

I could never get used to writing Chinese. Ever. Just something very odd to me. A language I would like to learn though would be Russian. I just think that would be so badass to be able to speak Russian.

No way, i've had german, french and english in class, and english is so retardedly easy it's crazy..

Danish on the other hand, is 1st, 2nd or 3rd hardest language in the world to master, don't remember the placement.

But english is so easy to learn, it cna be hard to understand accent, but that's for all countries.

If I could I'd probably travel to see Fenryl every month. One year I went less than every 3 months xD.
But meh school and an 18 hour flight doesn't make me want to go there every month...

Tried learning chinese, I got the pronunciation right (or close to) but the writing and reading...
I give up on everything that is not written in latin alphabet (so bye bye russian xD). Maybe one day I'll decide to finally learn japanese (learned the basics, but I gave up because of the kanji).

Woke up at 9.15am, thinking I started at 9.30 I rushed, arrived at school at 10 and saw that it wasn't my group that had class xD.
